You should stop doing the things that are bad for you, smoking, drinking, getting angry, overspending, overeating – but if you have tried and failed in the past, don’t give up. Breaking a bad habit is not simply a matter of will; it’s a matter of mind.
You must understand how your brain operates before you can truly manage it.
Over the next few weeks, I will take you through, step by step how to control your mind.
Each lesson is important, so don’t skip any steps.
Most of your brain is used to control the things that keep you alive and functioning – breathing, blood flow, muscle control. But when we think of the brain, we usually are thinking about the part that thinks – a relatively tiny section at the base of the brain called the Reticular Activating System or the RAS.
This is the part of the brain that makes you who you are. Understanding how it operates will help you to become the best you possible. You can discipline your mind once you understand it.
The three RAScals
Conscious is what you perceive through the senses, but only what you are aware of.
Subconscious is the filing cabinet of your brain. It is used for storage.
Creative sub-conscious is the part of the RAS that takes action.
Each time you make a decision; these three rascals have a conversation and decide the outcome. If you learn to control this conversation, you will then be able to control anything that you do.
Currently your mind is undisciplined. It is like a child that has never had limits. An out of control mind is your worst enemy. It is your mind and not the outside world that is holding you back.
Luckily for you, the RAS will obey whatever you ask of it. You just need to learn how to ask effectively.
I will show you how in the next few lessons.
