Universal laws are the rules that make the universe function in an orderly fashion. They cause the planets to stay in orbit, they cause seeds to grow toward the sun, they keep us on the ground. They rule the universe.

They are not mysterious in any way. You live with them every day, most of the time without giving them a second thought (when was the last time you thought about gravity?) They affect everyone regardless of religion, race, gender, national origin, political affiliation, income, education level, etc.

You can have any future that you imagine once you understand how to use the law of focus and the law of opposites.

  • Learn the laws
  • Wait out the lag
  • Don’t replay a bad movie

Learn the laws

The Law of Focus is a universal law. It says that you move toward what you focus on. Eyes first, body follows. Not a surprise.

Another aspect of the law of focus is the law of opposites. You cannot look in opposite directions at the same time. If you look north, you cannot look south at the same time. You can use this law to control your future.

Whatever you lock onto you lock out the opposite.

If you focus on the positive, you lock out the negative and move toward the positive. This is why positive thinking is crucial for success. You move toward what you focus on and you lock out the opposite.

Understand the lag

Lag is experienced every time you turn a car around to go in the opposite direction. You expect a delay before the car turns around. It takes time to get it turned around and moving in the desired direction.

The same principle applies to changing the focus and direction of your life.

Once you begin to focus on what you want, it will take time, but you will begin to move toward your desires.

Be patient, this is life, not a microwave oven.

Don’t replay a bad movie

What is the worst movie you’ve ever seen? How many times did you pay to see it? I bet you only paid to see it once. After all, what sense does it make to pay to see a terrible movie a second time? It’s not going to get any better.

Stop replaying bad past experiences in your head. They are over, done, let them go. They are a terrible movie that is no use to you. Stop dwelling on it. The law of opposites will work against you if you don’t turn your back on terrible past events.

You must also focus on your positive capabilities in order to be successful. If you believe that you are incompetent, you will lock out your ability to be competent. You will move toward incompetence and failure.

To succeed you must believe that you are competent and worthy of success.

Go to the good movie as much as you can

Prove this to yourself by providing your mind with evidence of past successes. Come up with as many examples of success as you can. Replay all of the successes and good experiences you have had. Keep attending the good movie.

By doing this you are focusing on success and therefore locking out failure. You will move toward success.

If you focus on the past, you lock out the future. If you focus on the future, you lock out the past. If you want a successful future, focus on it. By doing so, you lock out the failures of your past.

To become powerful, focus on what empowers you. You will convert this power into energy and begin to move toward the life you are dreaming of.

  1. Great post. This is something that I’m thinking a lot about at the moment while going through a major life transition. It takes quite a bit of work to see what we’re really thinking about, our cognitive habits, and then a great deal of vigilance and determination to create new ones that sustain us.

Funny you should mention that. This blog was born because I was also going through a transition. I had achieved all of my goals and need new ones. Hence, Mental Health Food was born.

After a while, this manner of thinking becomes a habit, it does take discipline and practice in the beginning, though – just stick with it.

  2. What a positive, informative, and eye opening message! This was a great read….thanks for sharing.

  3. Fantastic, Saundra!! I love your pieces!! I guess I’m weird because I think about gravity every day when I apply my moisturizer on my face and neck–I always sweep up and out!! LOL!!!

When I was in 6th grade a cosmetologist told us to sweep up and out. I have been doing the same ever since I was twelve. Unfortunately, gravity is still winning LOL (even though I am only 39)
